10 Things That Will Make Your Blog AWESOME {part 3}

Little disclaimer – these are just my opinion… taken and formed from my blog designing experience this past year and a half, and some things I’ve picked up along the way. Please take them with a grain of salt, and keep doing what you know is best for your blog :) xo

Okay so I am laaaaaate posting this tonight, but as the design queue has opened back up, my day has been nothing short of all kinds of crazy {in a good way!}.

Today I’d like to talk a little about Social Media Icons. They are the little icons that send HUGE messages to your readers… saying HEY… find me here too!!

See mine on the left hand side? ;) I will soon be adding a Pinterest one, if I’ll ever be ‘invited’ in… still scratching my head on that one! ;)

Anyway, so you can find ooodles… I kid you not… online for free. Click here and just see what I’m talking about. If you know a little about HTML coding you can fix yourself up with these in a snap. If not, I can set you up in no time for $10.

A quick tutorial on DIY:

1. Find the images you would like to use.

2. Size the images appropriately. For example, if your sidebar is 200 pixels wide, and you have four social media icons, make them about 40-45 pixels wide. You may need to resize them, depending on the amount of margin space and padding your template is set up with. You can check the size of your sidebar by looking at your blog’s HTML template.

3. Host your images through a imaging host site like Photobucket. Copy the HTML code, which will look something like this:

<a href=”YOUR IMAGE SOURCE” target=”_blank”><img src=”YOUR IMAGE SOURCE” border=”0″ alt=”Photobucket”></a>

4. Go to your Dashboard, then Design. Click “Add a Gadget” and select “HTML/ JAVASCRIPT”.

5. Paste all of your image HTML codes, one after the other. A space in between them might be a good idea, to keep from getting confused.

6. Replace the FIRST code after <a href=”… with the LINK to your Social networking link… be it your facebook page, twitter page, etc…

It will look something like this:

<a href=”YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE URL” target=”_blank”><img src=”YOUR IMAGE SOURCE” border=”0″ alt=”Photobucket”></a>

*Leave your image source code in the second spot there

7. Make sure all your links are pasted in correctly and save.

8. Enjoy the SM icons!

Gave it a try? Have a question? I’d love to hear from you!
