Disable Right Click Download

Disabling the right click download on your pictures definitely gives some peace of mind when sharing personal pics. Ya just never know ;)

You’ll be so relieved at how easy peasy this tutorial is! Seriously.

1. Log in to blogger.com

2. Go to your design page from your dashboard and click “add a gadget”.

3. Copy this code below. Be sure to grab it all, it’s quite long! Copy all the way until you see </script>

<script language="JavaScript">

//Disable right mouse click Script
//By Maximus (maximus@nsimail.com) w/ mods by DynamicDrive
//For full source code, visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com

var message="Function Disabled!";

function clickIE4(){
if (event.button==2){
return false;

function clickNS4(e){
if (document.layers||document.getElementById&&!document.all){
if (e.which==2||e.which==3){
return false;

if (document.layers){
else if (document.all&&!document.getElementById){

document.oncontextmenu=new Function("alert(message);return false")

// -->

4. Paste it into a “HTML/JAVASCRIPT” gadget and Save!

When someone tries to right click one of your images it will say “Function Disabled!” by default. You can change this by pressing CTRL+F and locating the text “Function Disabled!” and changing it to whatever you would like it to say :) Be sure to leave the quotation marks, and everything else as is.

Try it out! Such a nice feature that brings a little piece of mind… :)

Be sure to follow along and share if you enjoyed this tutorial!

    does this mean they can’t right click other text on the page as well (like to grab your button), or just pics?

      No this should not interfere with text at all now that I think about it. Perhaps the code that is on your blog disables text selection. I will try to post about that soon.

    I disabled the old code that wasn’t allowing me to have right click on text and inserted this code. when i went to try and right click the text of my button it came up with my message and wouldn’t let me.

      Okay, is the code live on your blog now? I just copied the button code pressing the copy command on my keyboard.

    Yeah it is live on the blog now. People can grab my code with Ctrl+C but not right clicking.

      oh boo. That is so weird. I suppose it does disable text selection on some level, or copying rather. There is another method of disabling right click, maybe that will work better for you, I will try to post it soon. Sorry I can’t be of more help :(

    Just did the “disable right click” and am loving the watermark (http://picmarkr.com/index.php) link! Next to do the picture protecting code deletion bit. :D

    I have a Mac and when I want a photo all I need to do is click and drag it into my iPhoto – will this code enable Mac users from grabbing my photo? I installed the code per the directions, and I can still grab and pull my photo – but maybe that’s because it’s my own? will others still be able to? Maybe I’m just not understanding this feature.

      That is a great question Katrina. Unfortunately this only disables right-click (on a Mac it’s holding down the Control button while clicking). If you want to protect your images from this feature on macs you might consider watermarking your photos. xxxx
