Hi everyone! I’m Natasha and I blog over at My Angel Baby….Aiden William.  I am honored to be guest posting at Small Bird Studios today during this amazing series 12 Days of Christmas With You in Heaven”. Especially because I get the chance to talk about someone so very special to me- my son Aiden. I have to say thank you to my lovely friend Fran for allowing me to share with you all my sweet baby boy and the holiday traditions we’ve created to remember and celebrate his life.

Aiden was born and went to be with Jesus on November 2, 2010. Losing him is THE most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life and even harder than that is knowing my heart will never fully be whole without him here. As a baby loss mom I do everything in my power to keep my son’s memory alive and make sure he is always a part of the daily lives of our family and close friends. I have also been blessed with an amazing online community of other baby loss moms who always remember him with me and offer so much support and love when I need it the most. Many of those moms will also be sharing with you special ways to remember your children during the holidays.

Last year Christmas was a painfully hard time because we were less than 2 months into our grief from losing Aiden. I wasn’t able to do a lot to honor my son but then again I wasn’t able to do a lot period. This year I have a little more strength. I’m still missing my boy like crazy but it’s important for me as his mother to create special traditions that include him in the holidays. There are a few different things I’m doing to include Aiden in our Christmas- both at home and as we send holiday greetings to family and friends.

Today I want to share with you a beautiful personalized frosted candle holder I made for Aiden that I plan to use in our Christmas decorating.

When I started putting out Christmas decorations I knew I needed to have a candle for Aiden. I love candles and I have them all over the house at Christmas time. Some are for decoration and some are to burn and make the house smell yummy. It just wouldn’t have been right to not have an Aiden candle!

As I scoured Pinterest for ideas {are you as addicted to Pinterest as I am?????} I found a lot of tutorials on making frosted candle holders. I actually combined a few of the tutorials with some of my own ideas and came up with this fabulous candle:

If you’ll read on with me I’ll tell you exactly how I made it!

The first step is to find a glass candle holder you like. I found this one at Michaels and I thought it was the perfect size for where I wanted to place the candle and I love the shape. You can also find great glass jars/holders at the dollar store for really cheap!

Next I gathered all my other supplies. Here’s a complete list:

Glass jars/candle holders (as many as you’d like to decorate)
Mod Podge
Epsom Salt
Glitter (any color)
Clear Gloss Sealer
Foam Brushes
Paper Plates
Plastic Forks
Letter Stickers

Ok now on to making the glass candle holder. First mix your epsom salt with a few spoonfuls of glitter. I used gold glitter to match my Christmas decorations. Mix the salt pretty well to get out all the clumps.

Now you’ll want to place your letters on the candle/jar. I’m using letter stickers that are raised and covered in plastic type material so they will withstand the Mod Podge. I chose to put Aiden’s initials on the candle holder and I picked this pretty green to go with the Christmas decor and to stand out under the epsom salt mixture.

Next paint your entire glass candle holder/jar and letter stickers with Mod Podge.

Now roll your glass in the glitter/epsom salt mixture.

Apply a few coats of your clear gloss sealer. This dries pretty quickly so it shouldn’t take too long to apply multiple coats.

Once the glass is completely dry add you candle (I use flameless candles) and you’re ready to add your special candle holder to your Christmas decorations!

Aiden’s candle is displayed in our front hall on the entryway table. I wanted it to be in a spot where everyone who visits our home will be able to see it. I love how it turned out and I will probably make some more of these for other places in our house and as gifts.

I hope you all enjoyed the personalized frosted candle holder tutorial! If you decide to make one yourself I’d love to see pictures!

Also stop by my blog on December 1st if you are interested in seeing the other ways we’ll be remembering Aiden this year at Christmas. I have all kinds of plans to include my little man in the holidays! And I’d love to hear all the ways you are including your children this year.

Wishing you all a peaceful holiday season as you remember your sweet little babies ♥♥♥
