I’m a fairly simple girl to please. When I found these beautiful butterflies at the art store a while back I had no idea what I’d really use them for but I knew there had to be something.
They are so delicate, and simply gorgeous.
I used part of the butterfly banner on Jenna’s memory board.
And the rest yesterday for Mother’s Day cards for our card line.
How does the onset of Mother’s day affect you? It’s more than a month away, and while I have my sweet boy in my arms every night, the day still stings a little – because when most people tell me “Happy Mother’s Day” they aren’t thinking of her.
Whether they acknowledge it or not, she made me a mother for the first time.

I’m American but I live in Ireland. Ireland and the UK celebrate Mother’s Day in March so we’ve already passed it here (but I’m waiting for it in May too…)
We don’t have other children yet (hopefully this July if all goes well!) but I’m still Mommy to two beautiful baby boys who I didn’t get to keep on earth but who are all mine. Luckily for me, most friends and family are okay about acknowledging my ‘motherhood’ even if they’re not sure how I’ll take it. I try to normalize it for others so that they will be more comfortable saying the boys’ names or talking about them at all – not just on Mother’s Day but every day. It’s important to me that everyone knows I’d rather hear their names and talk about them and I won’t dissolve into a pile of tears (well, probably not…)
I am worried it will be a relief of some sort when we have a baby that we get to bring home (our boys lived their lives in the NICU). People will be able to acknowledge the new baby more easily and maybe they’ll be less concerned about our firstborn sons. I guess we’ll figure out how to deal with that when we get there (praying every day that we do get there!)
Praying you get there too Elizabeth. Sending big love to you!! That is so awesome that your friends and family are comfortable acknowledging your motherhood. Such a precious gift!
Thanks so much Francesca. By the way – love the butterflies! xo
beautifully written, franchesca. may you see and savor the sweetness of each day, even the days that are bittersweet. praying for you.

thanks so much friend! Prayers are coveted these days :) xoxo
So beautiful. When the girls asked about Bub when they looked at your phone at the meet-up, and then asked, “Is he your only one?” my heart ached for you. I could tell you were a little hesitant to answer. I wanted to squeeze you so tightly!
Jenna is never forgotten!

Lots of love to you friend!! xoxo
Those are absolutely beautiful! Your story about Jenna breaks my heart and really touched me to the core. I wanted to tell you that at the meetup on Sunday, but I wasn’t sure how to approach it. You are such a strong momma!

Thanks so much Meg, it means a lot. Sharing our story and the way God has used it somehow gives all of this purpose. It was so great to meet you and so many bloggers in htown :) Hope to see you again next month!

Those butterflies are sooo sweet! I completely relate to “when most people tell me “Happy Mother’s Day” they aren’t thinking of her.” It is true & having other children, I celebrate that of course, I am sooo proud and honored that God chose me to be their mommy, but it still stings because Eden is not here. She wont be in the picture that will capture this mother’s day. Like all the holidays, it is bittersweet. Such tension in this life til we step foot into glorious Heaven.
Thanks Carrie, I am so glad to have found those butterflies. I instantly thought of Jenna :)
Bittersweet- that is the word. Thank God for the sweet :)
xoxo
