Crunchy Confessions

crunchy confessions

I’ve gone no poo. It’s all Pinterest’s fault. I’m on day four, and my hair is now globs of grease balls and straw. After the first wash a few days ago, it was softer than it’s been in a long time! It’s weird. I hear it gets better. I believe it will. I’ve read this is what happens. So I must be doing something right?

I’ve also found myself ordering activated charcoal and essential oils. I used to read about this “crunchy” movement and it would do one of two things: 1) stress me out because how on EARTH do you find time to do these things, much less MAKE them? 2) roll my eyes, and think, that’s NUTS! I’ll just buy the better shampoo, you know not the one that costs a couple bucks and not the one that costs $17 for a bottle, but somewhere in between.

Well I got to reading that making your own shampoo doesn’t require anything special. Baking soda, water, apple cider vinegar. All stuff I had, or knew where to get. And for next to nothing! Plus it’s all kinds of good for your hair. And after throwing a ton of bleach in my hair to get ‘ombre’ in it, I thought I’d better do something before I have to whack it all off. My hair splits so easily.

So we’re doing this. Slowly.

I’ve also stopped drinking cow milk. Though, not sure that counts as being ‘crunchy’, but its a HUGE change. I don’t miss it like I thought I would, but I do miss it when I’m eating a chocolate chip cookie!

From time to time I’ll catch up you on my crunchiness. Some of it will be gross, like greasy hair confessions, but I’m hoping it’s a start to cleaner, healthier living.

You are hysterical!!! My sister-in-law has been doing this for close to a year now & her hair looks GREAT!!! She is black and “ethnic” hair is a real pain to find products for, but this treatment worked great for her–except for de-tangling. As I have super curly hair too, that would be my worry. But she uses a bit of shea butter. I would probably use a bit of Moroccan oil as I already have that on hand. But now I’m very interested in doing this!!! Pretty excited about it really!!!
You go with your crunch self! LOL
(PS-re the milk-I’ve heard that adults don’t really need to drink milk at all provided they are getting calcium through other means.)

I’m curious, what are you drinking instead of cow’s milk? almond? soy?

Keep going, power through! like most things no pain means no gain and the rewards at the end will be worth it. this is coming from another convert who used to look at this type of thing so skeptically and go as far as mocking people for putting themselves through it

I’ve thought about doing no poo but I’m scared. And you ombre’d your hair too? I did mine for my birthday.

Anything new takes time to perfect. With those home made products, it takes a lot of experimentation to actually find the one that works.

See, this whole ‘no poo’ movement scares me. It scares me because I already suffer from insanely oily hair, and if I switched off the poo, I think my hair would look like I was some unwashed bum-o on the street.

I think I’ll stick with my ‘poo even if it is bad for me and my hair.

So I’ve been trying to go no poo for months now, and I have givin in after the second day! I made it 5 day this past week….BUT I gave in again! I HAD TO WASH MY HAIR! It was so greasy, tangled, and staticy! I think I may just look into getting a more natural organic shampoo and go that route.

You are one brave woman! I have never even considered going weeks without shampooing my hair, I can hardly go 3 or 4 days but oh, do I try. I’m sure it’s gotta be good for your hair! and the hubs and I switched to almond milk almost a year ago and love it so much better than cow’s milk. It’s so much better for you too!
    Good luck with the hair!
